Château Clerc Milon 2022 - 5th Cru Class

Baron Philippe de Rosthchild acquired Château Clerc Milon in 1970, reclaiming this derelict estate with the firm intention of restoring it to its former grandeur. It was designated the 5th Grand Cru Classé in 1855.

Today, Château Clerc Milon comprises 41 hectares of vines in the north-east of the Pauillac appellation, on the beautiful Mousset ridge overlooking the Gironde. The soil is two-thirds deep sandy gravel on a clay and limestone base that outcrops in the eastern part of the estate.

The vineyard is planted with five varieties typical of the region:

- Cabernet Sauvignon (50%),

- Merlot (37%),

- Cabernet Franc (10%),

- Petit Verdot (2%) and Carmenere (1%).

The average age of the vines is 53 years, probably one of the highest in the Médoc. Vine density is high, varying between 8,500 and 10,000 vines per hectare depending on the plot. The grapes are harvested by hand, vinification is carried out in a fully gravity-fed vat to respect the integrity of the berries, and half the wine is aged in new oak barrels.

Château Clerc Milon is a wine with great ageing potential, a particularly successful combination of gravel and clay-limestone terroirs, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Powerful, tannic, fruity and harmoniously full-bodied, Château Clerc Milon displays all the elegance typical of the finest Pauillac wines.

Tasting notes from the Château:

Château Clerc Milon 2022 reflects the intensity and concentration of this vintage. Flavors of blueberry and wild berries, spices, pepper and a touch of violet combine in a rich, complex aromatic palette. The perfect balance between the freshness of the licorice and mineral nuances, and the controlled power provided by silky, mellow tannins, reveals all the elegance and precision of this grand cru. Black fruit aromas combined with hints of cocoa powder linger for a long time.
