Château L’Evangile 2022
It's one of those mysteries of geology that, to the south-east of the Pomerol plateau, a curious accident brings a long line of gravel to the surface. Three vineyards, including L'Évangile, share this rare land.
Bordered to the north by the vines of Petrus, Château L'Évangile is only separated from Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion by a secondary road to the south. The 22-hectare vineyard, with its pure gravel soil and iron-rich subsoil, is the ideal playground for the 80% Merlot, which gives the wine its fruitiness, and the 20% Bouchet, the local name for Cabernet Franc, which gives the cuvées their finesse and structure.
At just 30, Juliette Couderc took over as technical director of l'Evangile in 2020. An agricultural engineer, Languedoc native and rugby champion, she cut her teeth at Long Dai, the Domaines' Chinese vineyard. She works under the authority of Olivier Trégoat, a great soil specialist, who is entrusted with the technical management of Rieussec and L'Évangile, while retaining that of Long Dai.
Second wine, Le Blason de L'Evangile.
