Château Cos D’Estournel 2022 - 2nd Cru Class
Today, Cos d'Estournel's 100 hectares are made up of a mosaic of a multitude of plots. Two-thirds of the vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
With an average age of 45 years, Cos d'Estournel's vineyards contain some very old vines, many between 80 and 100 years old, which represent an incomparable opportunity for the estate. These old vines bring depth and structure to the wine, reflecting the complexity of the soil from which they draw their deepest elements. The Grand Vin de Cos d'Estournel is made with grapes from vines that are an average of 55 years old.
At Cos d'Estournel, preserving our heritage is paramount: every action we take is undertaken with a global, long-term vision, using the best techniques available. In the vineyard as in the cellar, our teams are committed to working as naturally as possible, even if this has real implications for the time spent. For example, the installation of a gravity-fed cellar allows us to handle the berries, then the juice, with the greatest gentleness, without excess, thus preserving the integrity of the fruit. This work in the cellar fully reveals the complexity of Cos d'Estournel's terroir. Cos d'Estournel is over 200 years old. It is our duty to perpetuate a long-term vision of the vineyard, which respects the environment, for future generations.
