Château D’Armailhac 2022 - 5th Cru Class

Château d'Armailhac, classified growth since 1855 under the name Mouton d'Armailhacq, extends over 70 hectares in the northern part of the commune of Pauillac.

It comprises three groups of plots. Following on from the "Carruades de Mouton" plateau, the Plateau des Levantines et de l'Obélisque, composed of light and very deep gravel, is the ideal terroir for Cabernets.

The deep gravels of the Plateau de Pibran rest on a clay-limestone subsoil, which gives Château d'Armailhac wines their characteristic finesse and elegance. Finally, the light gravels of the Croupe de Béhéré descend to a depth of three meters. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The average age of the vineyard is 46 years, and 20% of its plots were planted in 1890. With 8,500 vines per hectare, the planting density is high: Château d'Armailhac perpetuates the old methods.
