Château La Mondotte 2022 - 1st Great Cru Class B
Elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 2012, La Mondotte was acquired in 1970, along with Canon-La-Gaffelière and Clos de l'Oratoire, by Count Joseph-Hubert VON NEIPPERG.
The 4.5-hectare estate, located on the clay-limestone plateau to the east of Saint-Emilion, is a veritable jewel case endowed with all the natural assets needed to produce a Premier Grand Cru Classé.
The soils, composed of very silty clays, rest on bedrock. This shallow, poor terroir structure provides excellent water regulation and encourages the vines to put down deep roots. The natural drainage, combined with the exceptional amount of sunshine the vineyard enjoys, results in a terroir of great precocity.
The quality of La Mondotte's clay, combined with the exceptional age of its vines (60 years on average), give birth to a wine deeply marked by its terroir, a silky, powerful wine of unrivalled finesse and great minerality.
This 19th-century estate has been certified organic since 2014.
