Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 - 5th Cru Class
Owned by the Borie family since 1978, Grand-Puy-Lacoste is located in the Pauillac terroir. The Grand-Puy-Lacoste estate comprises 90 hectares, 58 of which are planted, harmoniously distributed without discontinuity around the Château. It is planted with 75% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
The layers, of varying depths, are composed of gravel mixed with sand and a little clay. They form hills called "croupes de graves", separated by small streams called "jalles" that drain off the water.
The typicity of each grape variety adds nuance to the overall harmony.
Cabernet-Sauvignon gives vigor and firmness to the wines. It develops very characteristic black fruit aromas, and its aromatic palette becomes highly complex with age.
Merlot is its indispensable complement. It is renowned for bringing roundness, finesse and generosity.
Cabernet Franc is endowed with great potential for finesse, lending elegance to the wines.
Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a fervent believer in sustainable viticulture: in twenty years, treatments have been halved. No insecticides have been used in the last ten years, and wildlife has reclaimed its rights. The land has always been worked exclusively mechanically: ploughing, no herbicides, double Guyot pruning. Each year, the selection reflects the credo of excellence that the family has imposed on itself for over thirty years.
Wines not selected for Grand-Puy-Lacoste are blended into the second wine, Lacoste-Borie (created in 1982), a more accessible wine in its youth.
