Carruades de Lafite 2022

Second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild. 

The origin of the name comes from the plateau des Carruades, the name of a group of plots of land adjacent to the hillside of the Château and acquired in 1845 by Château Lafite. In the twentieth century, the Carruades were marketed separately from the distribution channel of Château Lafite Rothschild.

The name of Carruades is then taken over for the second wine of Chateau Lafite, it is first called "Moulin des Carruades" then "Carruades de Lafite" since the 1980s.

The Carruades benefits from a unique terroir and characteristics close to the great wine, given the refined selection of the latter over the last twenty years. This wine also has its own personality, linked to a higher proportion of Merlot in its composition and to plots of land now well identified as producing Carruades.

The grape varieties associated in the wine are 50-70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30-50% Merlot and a variation of up to 0-5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

In 2010, Lafite has refined its system by building two vats consisting of several dozen small capacity tanks. A merlot vat room (cement vats of 50 to 125 hl) and a divisional vat room (stainless steel vats of 30 to 70 hl) dedicated to malolactic fermentation.
