Château L’Evangile 2019
L'Évangile is a Bordeaux House located on the famous Pomerol plateau. It is within this natural laboratory that the soil and the sky bring a new lesson for each vintage. »
Saskia de Rothschild
It is by one of these mysteries of geology that a curious accident on the south-east of the Pomerol plateau brings a long line of gravel to the surface. Three vineyards including L'Évangile share this rare earth. The estate occupies, indeed, a quite privileged situation: it is bordered in the North by the vines of Château Pétrus and is separated, in the South, from Cheval Blanc in Saint-Emilion only by a secondary road.
The surface is 22 hectares with sandy-clay soil with pure gravel and subsoil with iron filth. The associated grape varieties are Merlot (80%) which brings fruit, body and flesh, and gives the wine that inimitable suppleness and the "Bouchet", the local name for Cabernet Franc (20%), for finesse and structure. The techniques used are completely traditional. Production is limited, while the harvest and many other tasks are carried out by hand throughout the year.
The vineyard is managed by Olivier Trégoat, Technical Director of Château L'Evangile, Château Rieussec, Château Paradis Casseuil and Domaine de Long Dai.
