Château Pavie Macquin 2018 - 1st Grand Cru Class B
The vineyard of Pavie Macquin is characterized by its location on a plateau, next to the Mondot mound and on the edge of the Fongaban fault. Due to its dominant position, it lies between 100 meters above sea level on the edge of the hillock and 75 meters on the edge of the plateau. In one piece, it is surrounded by three First Great Classified Growths and is therefore in a particularly qualitative sector.
This terroir of strong clay on limestone rock gives the wine power, fleshiness, minerality, freshness and generosity.
The Pavie Macquin grape variety, predominantly Merlot, finds its raison d'être in its good suitability to strong clays. The molasses soils associated with the asterious limestones give power and tension to the wines and a deep flesh. Soils of old colluvium with the presence of silt will bring a little lightness, with always this mineral tension brought by the limestone.
The Cabernet Franc will find its right place on soils derived from limestone where the rock outcrops, because the warming is faster and it is there that the grape variety excels in bringing its "backbone" and complexity to the blend.
2% of old Cabernet Sauvignon crowns the whole.
