Château Montrose 2018 - 2nd Cru Class
At Château Montrose, the largest plot is two hectares, the smallest a few ares, but each has its own personality, its own name, its own soil or subsoil, and has a vine whose age, yield, grape variety or rootstock is different from the neighboring plot.
The Montrose grape variety, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon dominance (60% of the vineyard surface), is typical of the greatest Medocs. On the estate, this grape variety gives the best of itself on warm, gravelly and permeable soils, whose clay subsoil favours the constitution of a reserve of water useful to the plant in hot weather. The Garonne gravel soils of Montrose are a cradle of predilection for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The great variety of soils also allows to bring to perfect maturity plots of Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Petit Verdot (2%), to produce wines of great complexity.
