Château Calon Ségur 2018 - 3rd Cru Class
Calon Ségur is unique because its terroir is like no other. The altitude can reach 13 meters but the relief is clear, and the slopes favour the flow of rainwater. Everywhere, the layers of gravel deposited by the river in the Quaternary are thick, covering a predominantly clayey sub-base.
On the surface, there is a thin bed of clay of lacustrine origin.
This combination of gravel and clay explains, among other things, the power and finesse of the wines of Calon Ségur.
The vineyard marries three gravelly crests that bounce down towards the estuary to a small chapel. It is said that one must land there, watch the ships escaping to the open sea, feel the sun-drenched pebbles under one's feet to understand what is at stake here.
