Château Margaux 2015 - 1st Great Cru Class
At the beginning of the 21st century, Bordeaux wines are experiencing unprecedented success. The entire world seems to have its eyes fixed on Bordeaux, and demand for these great wines continues to grow. This prosperity, along with the growth of many other regions around the world, has placed Château Margaux in a more competitive environment and also served to highlight its unique positioning: that of a Premier Grand Cru Classé dating back to 1855, benefiting from a terroir shaped over the centuries.
Margaux has experienced tremendous growth since its acquisition in 1977 by the Mentzelopoulos family, followed by the remarkable work of Paul Pontallier, who established the wine as the finest in its appellation.
Today, the estate is writing a new chapter in its history with the arrival of Alexis Leven-Mentzelopoulos within the family business. He joins his sister Alexandra, an ambassador for the Premier Grand Cru Classé since 2012 and now Deputy Managing Director of the family business, as director. Both count on the experience of Philippe Bascaules, an agricultural engineer who worked alongside Paul for twenty-one years, to continue crafting smooth wines with an inimitable style: elegance, purity of fruit, harmony, and finesse.

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux
By Neal Martin / Vinous - february 2025
Château Margaux, which comes in a quite stunning engraved bottle, has an equally stunning bouquet with blackberry, pencil box and light scents, less minty than I noticed a few years ago.
The palate has exquisite balance and poise, fresh red and black fruit commingling, curry leaf and light tobacco notes emerging toward the poised, almost understated finish.
Utter class.
