Château L’Evangile 2009

Bordered to the north by the Petrus vineyards, Château L’Évangile is separated from Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion to the south by only a secondary road. Its 22-hectare vineyard, with its pure gravel soil and iron-rich subsoil, is the ideal breeding ground for 80% Merlot, which brings fruit to the wine, and 20% Bouchet, the local name for Cabernet Franc, which gives the cuvées their finesse and structure.

The property has benefited from significant investment and the technical expertise of the Barons de Rothschild estates since 1990, and the acquisition of new plots has accompanied the restructuring of the vineyard. In this natural laboratory, all the vines have now been replanted and are learning to adapt to the rhythm of organic farming.

At just 30 years old, Juliette Couderc took over as technical director of L'Évangile in 2020. An agricultural engineer, Languedoc native, and rugby champion, she cut her teeth at Long Dai, the Domaines' Chinese vineyard. She works under the direction of Olivier Trégoat, a leading soil specialist, who is entrusted with the technical direction of Rieussec and L'Évangile, while retaining that of Long Dai.

The 2009 Gospel has a bright future.

This vintage is generous for both the Merlots and the Cabernets, a year that allowed for aromatic expression with very fresh, beautifully defined aromas. It is richly colored in this sunny vintage. Its color is all black, enhanced with purple highlights.

The sun-drenched raisins explode with clean, fresh, and ample aromas, revealing notes of Morello cherries, raspberries, and light toast. The precise attack is complemented by the density of the tannic structure, whose straightforwardness, solidity, and exemplary structure are appreciated, all wrapped in a deliciously silky texture. The mid-palate is creamy, fleshy, and filled with black fruits, finally giving way to a final sensation of fullness and freshness. he 2009 Gospel has a bright future.
