Château Canon 2022 - 1er Grand Cru Classé B

In 1996, the Wertheimer family (owners of the Chanel house, including Château Rauzan Ségla, Château Berliquet and Domaine de l'Ile Porquerolles) bought Château Canon.

Château Canon is an emblematic estate, set on a limestone plateau with an exceptional terroir, covering 34 hectares.

The grape varieties are 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

The walled vineyards of Château Canon border the entrance to Saint-Emilion. It even invites itself into the heart of the village, since Château Canon's Bourg parcel, on rue de la porte Brunet, adjoins the Couvent des Cordeliers. A single 15-acre parcel of vines, surrounded by houses, ploughed by horse and harvested by hand according to ancestral practices.

Its Merlot grape varieties and its rank of 1er Grand Cru Classé make it a great wine.

By Neal Martin / Vinous - January 2025

The 2022 Canon has an exquisite bouquet that stops you in your tracks with heavenly tones of blackberry, blueberry, violet, and crushed limestone—articulating its terroir in consummate style.

It has brilliant delineation and lifts right out of the glass. The medium-bodied palate exhibits fine tannins, a very mineral, almost symmetrical texture, and a hint of black olive compote on the finish.

This is an exceptional Saint-Émilion and certainly one of the best vintages produced by Canon.

By Antonio Galloni / Vinous - January 2025

The 2022 Canon is a regal wine of utter sophistication and class—aromatic, light on its feet, and super expressive. Crushed flowers, chalk, mint, dried herbs, incense, and blood orange all run across the palate.

The distinctive notes of saline influence broaden the mid-palate and finish effortlessly.

Even with all the heat and dryness of the year, Canon retains its essential and highly refined personality.
