Château Léoville Las Cases 2022 - 2nd Cru Class

The current Grand Vin terroir is therefore the historic heart of the original terroir, and has been since the 17ᵉ century. The gate, emblematic of the estate, opens onto an enclosed area of around 55 ha surrounded by a stone wall demarcating its terroir and stretching from the village of Saint-Julien to Château Latour.

Since the end of the 19ᵉ century, Léoville las Cases has been managed by the same family currently represented Léoville las Cases contains a terroir of great complexity.

Mostly composed of Quaternary gravel on gravelly-sandy and gravelly-clay subsoils, we also encounter clays of varying depths and compactness, sometimes even outcropping. The proximity of the Gironde is responsible for this unique diversity of soils, created over geological periods by successive superimpositions.

What's more, the river generates a very specific microclimate that enables early ripening of the grapes and protects the vineyards from frost.

This incomparable terroir gives the Grand Vin its unique personality.

With the 2007 vintage, Château Léoville Las Cases has decided to create a second wine, Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases.
