Château Lafite Rothschild 2022 - 1st Cru Class

Daughter of Baron Eric, 30-year-old Saskia de Rothschild takes over the reins of Domaines Barons de Rothschild in 2018, representing the 6th family generation at the helm of the wine estates.

Co-manager of Château Lafite alongside her father, she has been involved in the management and technical oversight of the Domaines since 2008, and is also continuing the artistic approach initiated at the Château, which welcomes artist photographers in residence every year, with a particular focus on enhancing the know-how of the properties.

The vineyard comprises three main areas: the slopes around the Château, the Carruades plateau to the west and a 4.5 ha parcel in the neighboring commune of Saint-Estèphe. With a surface area of 112 ha, the soils are fine, deep gravel mixed with Aeolian sands on a Tertiary limestone subsoil, well drained and well exposed.

The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The average age of the vines is 39 years, but it should be noted that vines less than 10 years old are not included in the grand vin, which means that the average age of the vines producing the grand vin is around 45 years. The oldest parcel, known as "La Gravière", was planted in 1886.

The estate has been managed since 1962 by a single team overseeing Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon, given the contiguity of the two properties.
