Château L’Eglise Clinet 2022
This great Pomerol wine... that is L'Eglise Clinet represents 4.5 hectares of vines. The average age of the vines is 45 years, allowing naturally low yields and control over the quality of the grapes that will produce the future vintage.
The talented perfectionist Denis Durentou left us in 2020, leaving his three daughters united and determined to continue their father's work.
All the vines are cultivated using sustainable methods and, what's more, by hand. This is done with the utmost respect for a magnificent terroir of clayey gravel and clay. Hand-picking, which takes place when the grapes have reached perfect phenolic maturity, enables the grapes to be sorted according to their quality.
The Castel also produces a second wine, called chateau-la-petite-eglise.

Nöemie Durantou noted that this vintage is the best she's ever tasted for Merlot, and given that the 2022 L'Eglise-Clinet is 90% Merlot, this preempted a fabulous Pomerol.
Durantou also mentioned that her wines were a bit more "timid" than the day before, although the bouquet only needed four or five minutes of perspiration before unfolding with wonderfully delineated and concentrated aromas of black cherries, peony, blood orange, and crushed rock.
Exquisitely balanced, the palate has a cashmere texture thanks to the supple tannins, gaining density throughout. The finish is powerful and very sustained, disguising the 14.6% alcohol extremely well thanks to its counterbalancing acidity, although you do notice a touch of aftertaste.
The 2022 is a L'Eglise-Clinet built for the long term and continues the estate's superb range of forms.

The 2022 L'Eglise-Clinet is just as magnificent as it was en primeur. Deep, intensely aromatic, and surging with intensity, the 2022 has it all.
Inky red fruits, cedar, tobacco, dried flowers, new leather, and a kiss of French oak infuse the 2022 with enormous depth and complexity. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
It's pure, utter sensuality. What a wine!
