Château Rieussec 2019 - 1st Cru Class
The Art Of Metamorphosis
« The time had come for Rieussec to reinvent itself, so that the vineyard, the wine and the bottle all share the same commitment: that of sustainable development, which goes from a more environmentally friendly agriculture in conversion to the preservation of natural resources that our new packaging allows.
Imagining an original bottle that you want to keep after you have finished it is part of this same philosophy.
Saskia de Rothschild
The vineyard of Château Rieussec is located at the junction of Fargues and Sauternes. Château Rieussec is one of the most important properties in Sauternes and Barsac; its vines cover 85 ha of sandy-clay gravel.
The emblematic grape variety of Sauternes, Semillon dominates (90%), supplemented by Sauvignon (7%) and Muscadelle (3%). The techniques used are traditional to Sauternes and the harvest is done in several successive selections according to the state of ripeness of the grapes and the evolution of botrytis cinerea (noble rot). They are spread out over 6 to 8 weeks, from September to November.
The production is low and variable according to the goodwill of Mother Nature, the traditional reference of a vine to produce a bottle of wine in the Médoc is here rather a vine producing a glass of wine!
