Château Léoville Poyférre 2020 - 2nd Cru Class
Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate is located in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation.
With 80 hectares of great terroirs and the age-old know-how of its teams, the wines of the estate have been carried by the Cuvelier family since 1920.
If 2020 will still resound for a long time as a year apart, its vintage will have an even more special flavor for the Cuvelier family. It marks the centenary of their acquisition of the Second Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, while fulfilling its most beautiful promise, that of fully revealing the timelessness of the great terroirs of Léoville Poyferré.
Composed of several parcels of land. It includes 20 hectares planted in a single block in the northwest of the appellation for the production of Château Moulin Riche. Terraces of Mindel gravel, sandy-clay subsoil.

Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 2021
The 2020 Léoville-Poyferré is a powerful, structured wine. In recent vintages, the Léoville-Poyferré has been more opulent, but the 2020 shows a vertical, imposing construction framed by a backbone of tannin.
Dark red cherry, pomegranate, cedar and spice box emerge with a little bit of sweetness. Ultimately, Léoville-Poyferré is less spectacular than most St. Juliens at this stage. I don't think that's a problem with time. In a word: magnificent. Tasted three times.
Jane Anson, Decanter.com, May 2021
Rich and concentrated with purple highlights and a wall of tannins. Well-structured, has its feet firmly planted in the ground and will need time to soften and develop.
Good quality with depth. The tannins are much more present than the alcohol, which sets it apart from the 2018.
