Château Montrose 2016 - 2nd Cru Class
Château Montrose is one of the most privileged vineyards in the Bordeaux region.
The 95-hectare vineyard has the exceptional and very rare characteristic of being historically in one piece, around the Château, the cellars and the farm buildings. This unity facilitates the work of the vineyard. It allows a global reflection on the vineyard, an optimal vigilance on the sanitary state of each parcel and a more efficient organization of the work of the vine.
The terroir of Château Montrose corresponds to what geographers call the "elite nuclei". A complex geological stacking of several million years has favored the creation of this hillock benefiting from a natural drainage towards the estuary, ideal for the production of great wines.
The Montrose vineyard, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon dominance (60% of the vineyard surface), is typical of the greatest Medocs. On the estate, this grape variety gives the best of itself on warm, gravelly and permeable soils, whose clay subsoil favors the constitution of a useful water reserve for the plant in hot weather.
The gravelly soils of the Garonne region of Montrose are a favourite breeding ground for Cabernet Sauvignon. The great variety of soils also allows us to bring to perfect maturity parcels of Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Petit Verdot (2%), to produce wines of great complexity.
