Château Canon 2020 - 1st Great Cru Class B

In 1996, the Wertheimer family (owners of the Chanel house and therefore also of Château Rauzan Ségla, Château Berliquet, Domaine de l'Ile Porquerolles) bought Château Canon.

Château Canon is an emblematic property, located on the limestone plateau which enjoys an exceptional terroir, covering 34 hectares.

The vineyard is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

Enclosed by walls, the vineyard of Château Canon borders the entrance of Saint-Emilion. It even invites itself into the heart of the village, since the plot of Bourg de Château Canon, rue de la porte Brunet, is adjacent to the Cordeliers Convent. A single vineyard plot of 15 ares, surrounded by houses, ploughed by a horse and harvested by hand, according to ancestral practices. Its Merlot grape variety and its rank of 1er Grand Cru Classé make it part of the composition of the great wine.

Yves Beck: 98 - 100 / 100

What a superb bouquet, what an exceptional notion of delicacy and balance where subtlety and power mutually support each other; each does the other a favor! Nuances of gingerbread, blackcurrant and morello cherry. In the mouth the wine confirms the dispositions of the bouquet.

So much finesse, grandeur, fullness and harmony. The tannins are imperial, graceful and reveal themselves along the palate. They are of a rare power and yet they are not invasive, they are just terribly convincing. Their grain is very fine and their substance creates an extraordinary symbiosis with the tension of the acid structure. A very great wine that knows how to create emotion and brilliantly embodies the notion of quiet strength.
