Château Calon Ségur 2019 - 3rd Cru Class

In 2012, the Gasqueton family sold the Calon Ségur and Capbern castles to Suravenir, a subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group.

In the vineyard, the idea is to sublimate what can be sublimated.

The restructuring of the vineyard begun in 2006 is continuing with two major objectives: to increase the density of planting and to give more room to Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, it represents 56% of the vineyard's vines, alongside 35% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, and this replanting goes hand in hand with a program of mass and clonal selection aimed at preserving and diversifying the genetic heritage of the grape varieties. A considerable amount of work that plays in favor of the singularity and complexity of the wines.

Since 2012, the rebirth is everywhere: in the vineyard, in the cellars, in the chartreuse, in its gardens... The restructuring of the vineyard has first honored the star of Calon, the Cabernet Sauvignon, with a replanting calendar that runs until 2032. In 2016, the restored wine storehouses and a new vat room came into service. Two years later, it was the turn of the Carthusian monastery and its gardens to come back to life. At each stage of the incredible construction site, functionality and efficiency took precedence over ostentation.

The 2019 vintage was born under the best auspices. The hot and dry summer conditions are reminiscent of those of the great 2018 vintage. The water constraints allowed to reach remarkable levels of maturity for all the grape varieties. With an exceptional state of health of the grapes, the Merlot was picked from September 24 to 28 and all the Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc and Petit Verdot were picked between September 30 and October 9.

This vintage once again offers a complex, floral and fruity aromatic palette, with a freshness that accompanies silky, fine and elegant tannins. A new vintage that rivals the 2016 and 2018 vintages.
